Getting Started with T1DBase
T1DBase focuses on two research areas in type 1 diabetes (T1D): the
genetics of T1D susceptibility and beta cell biology. This site provides
tools which allow scientists to analyze, store, and share this T1D data
with other scientists.
There are two main ways to access information in T1DBase:
-
Use the Search box in the upper right corner to search for genes,
genetic markers (SNPs), or candidate regions. The results page
has a summary of each gene, marker, or candidate region that matched
the search term and provides links to pages with more
information. It works best to search for identifiers, such as gene
symbols (e.g., INS or PDX-1), RS numbers for SNPs, and so forth.
T1DBase does not do full text searching.
-
Click on a link in the list on the left side of the page
(called the "left-hand navigation bar"). Most links point to
pages that provide access to specific kinds of information, for
example, summary information from the Wellcome Trust Case Control
Consortium (WTCCC), or microarray gene expression data from a large
number of studies.
You can also click on the idiogram on the T1DBase home page to see
information about genomic regions identified through genetic
studies. You can click on a chromosome or the colored bars to the
right of each chromosome to obtain further detail on a susceptibility
region. T1DBase has idiograms for human, mouse, and rat; links in
the upper right corner of the idiogram allow you to select which organism
is displayed.

Logging into T1DBase
You are welcome to use T1DBase without logging in, but certain features
will not be available. There is a Log In link in the upper right corner
of most T1DBase pages, directly below the Search box. Registering for an
account is simple and fast. If you want to use all features of
T1DBase (except access to private data) without registering, you can login
with a guest account. More Information
